Budapest Affiliate Conference

This is iPokerVIP’s first real affiliate conference. We’ve been away for almost a week now and its been a really positive trip.

One of the meeting’s I was looking most forward to was with Karim Wilkins who is owns RakeTheRake. I think the angle they’ve taken is similar to iPokerVIP, although I think we’re more in touch with today’s players and have more innovative and rewarding offers.

I was really really tired and hungover… and managed to find Karim in the conference hall and we went to find some seats. The thing is, Karim’s the man at these things. He’s not the man for me but, he is the man. People are constantly coming up to him, dishing out complemantery handshakes and probably hoping to mother his next child – fair enough  guys, whatever works for you.

We find a seat and this chubby, middle aged, American guy comes up to Karim. We were chatting about 2p2 before he came over and Karim shortly recounts the situation iPokerVIP had with our opening thread. See the thread here.

It turns out this guy (Steve – I think) used to work for 2p2 and now works for PokerTracker. I just said a few words like ‘Yeah, in my mind it was completley out of line’. This guy defends PokerAddict and 2p2 and said something like “PokerAddict is really big within the industry, so wouldn’t make unfounded accusations”. Anyway, long story short: I get lured into a debate with this guy and proceed to get more and more wound up. Firstly, this guy wasn’t welcome. He had come and interuppted a meeting which was really important to me and I’d actually been thinking about for a long time. Secondly, he was obviously biased (as am I) and I just didn’t want to talk about it.

As the conversation is going on Karim decides to get out his laptop and zone out.  I tell Steve, I just don’t want to talk about it and my opinion is set in stone. Moderators should moderate, the fact he’s in the industry and is slating iPokerVIP with no proof and a vested interest is just wrong imo and that’s that.

There have been some really positive meetings though and I’m really excited for the future. I’ve met the right people and everyone seems to be pretty excited and a ton of faith in what iPokerVIP can achieve. Its just a case of rewarding the faith some sites have shown when we make go home.

I might add to this post later or make another one… pretty tired now so am going to hit the bed and have a powernap FTW.
